IEEE Student Branch

IEEE pronounced “I-Triple-E” is the world’s largest professional association with its corporate office in New York. It was formed in 1963 from the amalgamation of Engineers. Today, IEEE have more than 4 million members and Student Branches in nearly seven thousand colleges and universities all around the world.

The formalities for setting up the IEEE student branch started With Mr. Mobi Mathew as the interim chairperson and Asst. Prof. Haneesh Babu (The HOD, EEE Department) as the counselor, The petition was sent on 28 February 2011 to the IEEE KERALA SECTION. The approval of MEA ENGINEERING COLLEGE PERINTHALMANNA SB was received on 7 April 2011. Since then the activities of the student branch is going in a new trend. The first student branch meeting of MEA student branch took place on 10 March 2011. The formal inauguration of our student branch was done by Dr. PREMLET (Associate Professor in Physics, TKMCE, Kollam) on 25 August 2011. It was the day the dream of all IEEE members came true. Mr.Jemseher Ahmed P Assistant Professor, CSE Department is the current counselor of this prestigious Student branch with more than 100 members. Mr.Muhammed Shaheen of S7 EEE holds the post of chapter chairman.

            Since its inception, the flag of MEA IEEE SB chapter flew high in the sky with the variety of events it organized and with active participation of its members in various section level and international events. Under the student branch there are two society chapters (Industry applications society and Computer society) and one affinity group (Women in Engineering ). MEA IEEE Student Branch have members from all the departments (CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, ME, CE).

From the time of establishment onwards the Student Branch has been actively organizing various events and participating in events all around the sections at national and international levels. IEEE MEA Student Branch consists of societies like Industrial Application Society, Computer Society and Power and Energy society under IEEE as well as affinity groups like Women in Engineering that motivates girl students. Members from all the departments (CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, ME, CE). IEEE MEA Student Branch has played a major role in moulding the technical skills of the students within the college by creating an ambience for nurturing innovation, creativity and excellence in the students by completely following the motto, “Advancing Technology for Humanity”.

The Student Branch hosted technical, managerial and other intra- college and inter-college events. It always provides perfect opportunities to showcase students’ beautiful and speculative works. IEEE envisioned a future that is an enterprise-wide strategic planning process combining contemporary conditions with innovative modern ideas. Meetings of IEEE MEA SB members are organized weekly. Every year, we conduct a wide variety of programmes including hands-on workshops, technical and non-technical seminars, talks, different types of competitions that enhance the competitive minds of our students, techno-managerial events like XTRINIA, professional summits like ENVISION, etc.

Through these continuous events, the Student Branch aims to prepare the young engineers to confidently and competently face the challenges of intensifying competitions by imparting high quality technical and managerial programs coupled with appropriate training and wide exposure to the volunteers. Along with that by focusing on the all-round personality development of the volunteers and inculcating human values and professional ethics in them, IEEE MEA SB plays a key role in moulding the four-year engineering life of our students.

 Members of MEA IEEE hold positions in HUB and LINK (Local Integrated Network of Kerala) Executive Committee.
